The first voyage of the ship, skippered by Norah Fernández-Cuesta, will run until 10 August, and the itinerary will be Valencia-Cabrera-Northern Coves of Ibiza-València. Before departure, the crew members were able to enjoy a special guided tour of the Oceanogràfic in Valencia. Today, at around 20:30 hours, the ship is scheduled to arrive at the island of Cabrera. And tomorrow, Saturday, they will visit the Cabrera Archipelago Maritime-Terrestrial National Park, coinciding with the 30th anniversary of the beginning of its protection.

Throughout the days at sea, topics such as turtles, eels, jellyfish and other migratory animals such as cetaceans, sharks, seabirds, etc. will be dealt with, with the novel topics of super adaptations of animals to the environment, the villains of the sea or the impact of humans. Each topic will include practical workshops to complement the explanations of the experts. The workshops will be carried out with different means and utensils and will involve the observation of marine plankton, identification and spotting of species, samples of marine animals or a field notebook. The Cervantes Saavedra school ship has been equipped with new instrumentation, transforming the stern lounge into a makeshift laboratory.

Guadalupe García, specialised in marine species conservation, and Elena Herrero, marine biologist specialised in jellyfish, will be the experts leading the thematic programme with talks, workshops and observations during the crossing.

Those taking part in the trip will be able to experience the thrill of releasing one of the turtles recovered by the Oceanogràfic Foundation into the open sea.

In addition to these activities, participants will be able to acquire sailing knowledge from the boat's leaders, such as nautical terminology, basic notions of astronomy, the history and theory of sailing, and even take part in watches and sail-raising demonstrations.
